Summary from Goodreads:
One hundred and fifty years ago, Earth was destroyed, and the remaining humans fled to the dusty red planet of Jutaire, where the only oxygen is manufactured, food is scarce, and death strikes often.
When Lissa's father discovers Earth still exists, she accidentally inhales the toxic air of Jutaire, and in one breath, discovers she isn't quite human.
Her father hangs for his discovery, and Lissa knows the Chancellors will come for her, for she saw the Earth that night too. With nothing to lose, she sets out to expose the truth. It isn't long before she meets Julian, a beautiful boy who can breathe the toxic air like she can - and shows her that the Jute, the original inhabitants of the planet, are more tangled in their lives than she knows.
But the Chancellors are only pawns in a greater game - one where the Jute control everything. Worse, the Jute plan to leave Jutaire for Earth, but to get there, they need her. And they'll stop at nothing until Lissa is in their clutches, even if they kill every human in the process.
The race for Earth has begun.

The
Journey to Unbreathable
This is probably one of the most
asked question in all of the blogosphere and normally, I don’t ask it because I
feel like it’s been used and abused ;p but… where did the inspiration for Unbreathable come from? U is also self-published. How did you come to that decision? What are/were some pros and cons to being a
self-published author?
UNBREATHABLE was a novel I never set out to write. In a sense,
no one ever sets out to write a certain novel, but we get those ideas that mull
around before we think, hey, let me write
it.
With UNBREATHABLE, I was just finishing up another YA scifi (set
on Earth), when I jumped on Twitter. Random House was having a little Twitter
party, asking people to tweet their favorite first lines. That’s when I tried
to redo the first line for that scifi.
But I had another idea: what’s a first line that no one has ever
used before? One that would make a reader stop — not skim to the next first
line of the next book. The next thought that struck was: in how many books are
people searching for Earth?
That’s when the first line for UNBREATHABLE came about: We search for Earth everyday.
The first line has since changed, but the idea stemmed from
that.
I never wanted to self-publish, though it was always a
possibility, something my mom and I always spoke about. I queried quite a few
agents, and received quite a lot of requests, which led to a few re-requests -
meaning, they asked for revisions and wanted to see the manuscript again. When
they rejected with messages along the lines of, sci-fi is very hard to market right now, I felt that I could do it
myself.
I was still doubtful of going through with it, and still am, but
the support has been tremendous. And I’ll forever be thankful to the friends
who pushed me to self-publish.

Review: Hereafter
Published October 1st 2013
Goodreads | Amazon | BN
Thoughts:
Although I love to find out more about the life in Juniper Landing and how this whole 'ushering souls' kind of thing really work, I'm finding myself slowly losing interest in the whole journey. Is it because there's too many rules and characters to keep track of or the glaring fact that Rory is just a very bland character to begin with? Add in a predictable love interest and a new plotline, by the end of the book I'm feeling kind of disappointed but certainly it piqued my curiosity enough to check out the third book. And may I just add that Shadowlands would have been a wonderful stand alone without drawing it out as a series.
Verdict: 3 stars.

Kylie sees actions and consequences as bright, shining timelines in her head. Born with the power to gather the strings and braid them into a new chain of events, she is the weapon of choice for many pantheons in their never ending wars. One Mesopotamian goddess, the only forsaken Valkyrie, and a rogue, immortal, Berserker ally with Kylie. Constant harassment forces the group to take drastic action, and go on the offensive. She must braid time to save friends, and herself, as the gods drive them into situations in which she must choose: braid time, save her friends, and lose pieces of her mortal soul, or become slave to the pantheon of her choice.
Deception by an old friend sends Kylie fleeing to her parents’ home, where she hid her son, Riot. She’s too late, the gods found Riot and hold him hostage. Searching for him, Kylie experiences the most devastating betrayal of all.

Review: The Iron Traitor
ARC from Netgalley
In the real world, when you vanish into thin air for a week, people tend to notice.
After his unexpected journey into the lands of the fey, Ethan Chase just wants to get back to normal. Well, as "normal" as you can be when you see faeries every day of your life. Suddenly the former loner with the bad reputation has someone to try for-his girlfriend, Kenzie. Never mind that he's forbidden to see her again.
But when your name is Ethan Chase and your sister is one of the most powerful faeries in the Nevernever, "normal" simply isn't to be. For Ethan's nephew, Keirran, is missing, and may be on the verge of doing something unthinkable in the name of saving his own love. Something that will fracture the human and faery worlds forever, and give rise to the dangerous fey known as the Forgotten. As Ethan's and Keirran's fates entwine and Keirran slips further into darkness, Ethan's next choice may decide the fate of them all.
Thoughts:
The first book; The Lost Prince was an excellent addition to The Iron Fey series and I was so eager to find out what is in store for Ethan Chase when he returned to the normal human world after gallivanting around the Nevernever with his new girlfriend and his nephew in tow. As such, it is understandable that his parents and the rest of the human world freak out a bit after his disappearance.
But there are a few aspects of THIS book that I really did not like. Such as:
1. How useless the female characters are in the book. At least Kenzie has her own reason for being weak (Annwyl is just there so we have a damsel in distress who Keirran can actually save. Bohoo).
2. Forbidden love. Ethan and Kenzie's love affair seemed tragic but I just don't care enough for the romance between Keirran and Annwyl. Isn't it ironic that I care more about the human characters?
3. There's not enough of Meghan Chase and her brooding and swoon worthy husband; Prince Ash. (Are they married? I haven't finished reading The Iron Fey series).
4. The world building is getting more complicated. We have vanishing feys, another realm called The Between which is a world between Faery and the real world, The Thin Man (don't ask me about him, he's supposed to be mysterious) and to top it off now we have another prophecy about a catalyst with the power to change everything. That's kind of hard to digest in one sitting.
But really the prophecy part kind of redeemed this book for me because the 'killer' ending just made me so impatient for the third book to come out.
A note to Julie Kagawa: More on that prophecy please and ehem...just don't kill any more lovable characters in this series.
Verdict: 3 stars.

The first book has such an interesting concept and would have been a wonderful stand alone except that in the end although Prime Destinations was destroyed the evil guy behind it got away which is a real bummer. I'm hoping that the second book can give us some kind of closure.
